The Core Insight

For years you may have absorbed the same unhelpful story I did coming up through healthcare: that wanting to help people and wanting to be paid well for it were somehow opposites. I've watched nurses work double shifts they weren't compensated for and call it dedication. I've watched coaches discount their best work "to give back" and quietly resent it six months later. That's not generosity — it's leakage. A flame without fuel goes out. Fuel without a flame is just dead weight sitting there. The two need each other.
